The USDA developed this type of gooseberry in 1932 specifically for farmers in southern regions with extreme weather conditions. It's a cross between American and European varieties and is highly resistant to mildew, as well as being able to withstand high temperatures and humid conditions better than other types. This vigorous gooseberry bush grows up to 6 feet tall and produces a large amount of small, delicious dark red berries.
