Marrabout is a unique and lesser-known fig variety from North Africa, prized for its bold flavor and distinctive appearance. The fruit is medium to large with dark purple to almost black skin and a deep red, syrupy interior. Its taste is rich, intense, and complex—often described as having berry and wine-like notes with a sweet finish. The skin is thin and edible, and the texture is dense and jammy, making it excellent for fresh eating or drying.

Marrabout is known for producing a reliable main crop and thrives in warm, dry climates. Though still relatively rare in cultivation, it’s gaining recognition among collectors for both its flavor and heritage.
